The Langford elementary school music program emphasizes singing, instruments, composing, movement, and technology in a variety of ways. Students learn percussion and keyboard instruments as well as recorders in fourth and fifth grade There are multiple performance opportunities throughout the year for all grades and several groups come to Langford to perform as well. For Pre-K through third grade, the Austin Symphony Orchestra presents a different small ensemble each year to perform a short concert called The Building Blocks of the orchestra. For the third through fifth grade students, the Austin Jazz Workshop comes to perform a series of clinics followed by a concert.
In addition to opportunities on campus, the third grade attends Ballet Austin’s “The Nutcracker” each December. The fourth and fifth graders attend the Austin Symphony Orchestra’s Young Person’s Concert annually as well. Several fifth graders participate in the All-City Choral Festival annually. We also participate in the Recorder Festival. The Langford music program celebrates the creativity and ability in all students!
