A note from Ms. Beverding
I have been an educator for 26years. I for the last 12 years I have been a librarian, before that I taught for 14 years in many different grade levels. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Spanish. After graduating, I taught in Galveston, my hometown, for 5 years before moving to Austin. While in Galveston, I received my bilingual endorsement from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. While teaching here in Austin, I completed a Master's program in Information and Library Science from the University of North Texas. When I'm not at work I love cooking, crafting and spending time with family and friends.
I like to make the library a fun place for kids to read, learn and grow. I see each class once every other week. Sometimes we have stories or lessons on how to use the library and book check out. I also like to incorporate Maker time, so some weeks after check out students will have the opportunity to create with legos or participate in mini STEM challenges that go with the story that was read. In the past I’ve held lunch time book clubs, where students meet to talk about a book that we are all reading. I like to encourage students to read more through reading challenges, yes there are prizes involved.
